Last night Meagan and I ran the Street Light 5k that I talked about earlier. There were about 300 participants of various ages (anywhere from under 11 to over 70), many of them high school XC teams and college athletes. When I heard the gun shot, it brought back the feeling of running back in high school, and I knew I was going to enjoy myself. Like always, the race started with one big pack of people all together, pushing and knocking into each other. A few minutes later, however, the pack started to pull apart and separated into smaller groups. As far as the weather, it was a little humid outside, but it sure did feel better than it would have if the race had been during daylight. I think that that time of night is about the best time to run since it gets so cool outside. Some parts of the course got pretty dark and hard to see, but the street lights gave enough light to see the road and the people around you (and Meagan’s parents, who showed up to surprise her).
I did not reach my goal of 20 minutes–in fact, I was quite a ways off. I think I must have misjudged my time when I ran around the Old Fort track–maybe that track isn’t a quarter mile like I thought it was. Anyhow, I finished 75th overall with a time of 22:00. Meagan broke her personal record by 48 seconds, which made her very happy.
It was a good time–I look forward to running another 5k sometime in the near future. Here are a few pictures we took before the race:
After all the awards were given out (we stuck around, in hopes to win the cash given away at the end), we were both starving so we made our way to Denny’s to eat some breakfast (above).
